The first Festiva was engineered in a three-door hatchback body configuration with a 1.3 L I4 engine producing 58 hp. The model was built on Mazda's DA platform. In 1993, due to Ford's close partnership with Kia Motors, the second generation of the Festiva was on sale in the USA as the Ford Aspire. The new Festiva enhanced the output of its I4 motor to 63 hp and gained a new streamlined look. The third-generation Ford Festiva was a five-door mini-wagon based on the Mazda Demio. Its I4 engine had a displacement of either 1.3 L or 1.5 L.
