Your wrenches and sockets will get used the most during engine service, but for some work there’s just no substitute for a special tool designed expressly for the job. The right tool enables you to perform the repair properly, without risk of damage to your vehicle or harm to yourself. Whether you’re diagnosing a problem, performing a tune-up, replacing a component, or doing a complete overhaul, we have the engine tools you need for a successful repair.
Diagnosing what’s wrong with an engine can be the most difficult part of the job. We have a wide range of equipment to help you determine the health of your engine, including vacuum gauges and compression testers, oil pressure gauges, cooling system pressure testers, fuel pressure gauges and complete fuel injection testers, and even stethoscopes to help locate the source of noises. Armed with data from these tools you can make informed repair decisions.
You can count on peak engine performance when you use our tools to tune up your engine. We have spark plug sockets for those applications with tight spaces, repair tools and inserts to repair spark plug threads, wire pullers that give you the leverage to remove the wire from the plug in one piece, and testers to check for spark. Our feeler gauges enable precise adjustments of spark plug gaps, breaker points, and valve clearances. And if you’re installing a timing belt or chain, we have the special camshaft or cam sprocket holders, and engine alignment tools required to maintain component position for accurate valve timing.
Many jobs that you used to be able to accomplish with ordinary hand tools now require special, often vehicle specific equipment. But no matter whether you’re disconnecting fuel lines, removing a fan clutch, or replacing sensors or sending units, we have the unique wrenches and sockets for these repair tasks and many more. We also have numerous tools to make tasks go easier and faster, like flywheel turners, engine barring sockets, remote start switches, injector and glow plug pullers, stud removers, terminal release tools, and carburetor idle mixture adjusters.
It’s when you get inside an engine that you find you need the most special tools, and with our selection you’ll be well equipped. From hoist slings to ease engine extraction to bore gauges and micrometers to check dimensions and clearances, we have the engine overhaul gear. Old pistons come out easier when you use a ridge reamer, and you can impart a new cylinder finish for optimal ring seal with a hone. Clean up ring grooves with a ring groove cleaner and safely install new rings with a ring installer. Our cam bearing installers, piston ring compressors and valve spring compressors will all make your rebuild go smoothly.
