The Sprinter has seen its share of action, as it is recognized for establishing itself as the leader in its class over the last decade and a half. Known for its commercial applications more than perhaps anything else, the Dodge Sprinter has been a presence on the road since 1995, and it was recognized for its utility as well as its modern design and upscale accessories. When it first premiered in the mid-1990s, the Sprinter was used primarily for commercial purposes, and still is. However, its usage has grown thanks to the improvements made to the powertrain parts, and increase in aerodynamic styling. The Sprinter was made available in several different configurations: passenger 2500, cargo 2500, and the 3500 in both, as well.
For its powertrain, the Sprinter used a 2.7L turbodiesel five-cylinder engine which produced up to 154 horsepower and 243 pounds-per-foot of torque directed through a five-speed automatic transmission. It also featured multiple seat adjustments, storage compartments, and large cupholders. The Sprinter earned a reputation as a dependable and stylish fleet vehicle, and it could be seen used as a school bus, mail carrier, and more. The second generation of the Sprinter, which made its debut in 2007. It is presented as both a passenger van and cargo van. For the Sprinter passenger van, it is only offered in the 2500 (but with two different wheelbase choices, two body lengths, and two roof heights). The Sprinter cargo van comes in the 2500 and 3500 and is available with a 289" body-length and 84" "Mega Roof."
Engine options consist of a 2.1L inline four-cylinder (mated to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission) and a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 good for 154 horsepower and 280 pounds-per-foot of torque (geared to a five-speed automatic transmission). An optional 3.5L V6 that produced a hearty 254 horsepower and 250 pounds-per-foot of torque could also be had. Building on the previous generation, the Sprinter is equipped with an increased amount of accessories, including an improved tilted steering wheel, automatic climate control, antilock brakes, stability control, and a wide range of optional parts. Heated front seats, a sunroof, rear-parking assist, and a driver's side sliding door (passenger van) are the major amenities offered in the second-generation Sprinter.
The Dodge Sprinter is known for its utility, but that's not the whole story. With a sharply-sloped nose and a much more refined exterior style compared to all other entrants in this segment, the Dodge Sprinter easily stands out. Yes, it's got the room to cram in the entire team for games out of town, and sure, it has the cargo space to haul plenty of lumber and tools to the job site. But that's just the beginning. Because if you look closer, the Dodge Sprinter presents a package that is not only unique, but awfully tough to beat.
