Vehicle & Parts Protection
The Dodge Nitro first made its way onto the road in 2006 in anticipation of the 2007 model year. It is a compact SUV that is known as much for its towing capacity as it is for its "Load N Go" sliding cargo floor. The Nitro's body-style is that of a four-door SUV, and it is constructed on the Chrysler's KA platform. Upon its debut, the vehicle was equipped with a 3.7L PowerTech V6 engine but a 4.0L SOHC V6 was also made available (in Europe, a 2.8L inline four-cylinder diesel could be had). Engines were mated to either a six-speed manual transmission with a four-speed automatic and a five-speed Tronic automatic offered up as optional parts. As for the model's dimensions, the Nitro measures in with a wheelbase of 108.8 inches, a width of 73.1 inches, a height of 69.6 inches, and an overall length of 178.9 inches. The Dodge Nitro also came with standard rear-wheel drive with partial four-wheel drive available, as well.
For its first year on the road, the Nitro was presented in three different trim levels: SXT, SLT, and the R/T. Standard in all models was electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, a tire-pressure monitor, front and rear side airbags, and side-curtain airbags. Upholstery and other amenities depended on the trim level. SXT Nitros received cloth, SLT versions got stain-repellant cloth, and the top-level R/T was decked out with leather. In 2008, a lot of the Dodge Nitro parts and the model itself were updated. Once again, it was offered as both rear and four-wheel drive on two trim levels - the SXT and SLT. Standard on both was a 3.7L V6 good for 210 horsepower, with the SXT getting a standard six-speed manual transmission with a four-speed automatic as optional. On the SLT, a four-speed automatic transmission was standard. The R/T kicked things up a notch with a 4.0L V6 that throws out up to 260 horsepower directed through a five-speed automatic transmission. With the base SXT, power accessories, remote entry, satellite radio, and air conditioning were standard. The SXT took it up another notch with alloy wheels, a power driver's seat, the Load n Go cargo floor, cruise control, and more. The R/T was geared up with even more niceties including a upgraded interior accessories. All models came with the following parts included into the list of standard Dodge Nitro parts: front airbags, side curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, brake assist, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
2009 welcomed in another round of changes to the model. The SXT was replaced by the SE, which along with the SLT, was equipped with a 3.7L V6 which produced up to 210 horsepower geared to a four-speed automatic transmission. The optional R/T showcased a heftier 4.0L V6 engine (260 hp) with a five-speed automatic transmission. There weren't too many alterations for the 2009 model year. In 2010, the SLT and R/T trim levels were dropped and taken over by the SXT. Once again, rear and four-wheel drive was available in two trims, this time the SE and SXT. Both the SE and SXT were equipped with a 3.7L V6 engine capable of around 210 horsepower mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Since the R/T was discontinued, the SXT offered the stronger 4.0L V6 (260 hp). Standard on all models were power accessories, satellite radio, and air conditioning. Safety features across the board for all Dodge Nitro variants include active head restraints, front airbags, side-curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, brake assist, and a tire-pressure monitor. Although the Dodge Nitro has only been available for just a few years, it has provided the American automaker with a solid competitor in a crowded lineup. The vehicle has put up respectable sales numbers thus far and has earned praise from around the industry, including being named a contender for Motor Trend magazine's Sport/Utility of the Year (2007).
In the world of crossover SUVs, the market has needed a representative that stands out. A vehicle that not only delivers on all the necessary qualities everyone finds so important, but also the kind of presence that commands attention. Welcome to the Dodge Nitro. Bullish, muscular, and domineering, the Dodge Nitro is easy to notice. But not only does this badboy have the looks, it also has the tools to get the job done. Its pleasant performance and comfy interior are the key footnotes into what has become a compelling story. In a short period of time, the Dodge Nitro has established itself as a true leader.
