The Korean automobile manufacturer Daewoo Motors started production of the front-wheels drive subcompact Daewoo Lanos in 1997. The car was designed as a replacement for the Nexia model, but later in 2002 it itself was replaced with Kalos model in North America. This lineup of Korean cars was produced under many brands and model names in different countries. The development process of the Lanos started off in 1992 with the market analysis. Though the Daewoo America with its Lanos model disappeared from the United States in 2002, the rebadged version of the Daewoo Kalos, named Aveo, entered the North American market in 2004.
