The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive sports car that premiered for the 2004 model year. It was first introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show as a concept car. Due to its roadster image, sweeping lines, top-quality parts, and promise for above-average performance in its class, the Crossfire gained instant attention. When it was formally released a few years later, the Crossfire was made available as both a roadster and two-seat coupe. Under the hood was a 3.2L SOHC V6 engine good for up to 215 horsepower along with 229 pounds-per-foot of torque. The engine was mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. As for the model’s dimensions, the Chrysler Crossfire measured in with a wheelbase of 94.5 inches, a width of 69.5 inches, a height of 51.5 inches (roadster – 51.8 inches), and an overall length of 159.8 inches.
Several changes to the Chrysler Crossfire parts and design were introduced for 2005, including the addition of two trim levels: base and Limited. Base versions of the Crossfire were equipped with the six-speed manual transmission as standard, stability control, dual-zone air conditioning, a four-speaker CD audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power accessories, and more (convertibles showcased a power-top and defrostable glass). The Crossfire Limited displayed power-adjustable heated leather seats, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and a premium eight-speaker stereo. A DVD-based navigation system was available as an option. Drivers of the Limited trim could also choose between the six-speed manual transmission and the five-speed automatic. 2006 welcomed in the arrival of the SRT-6 trim, which added 18” wheels in the front and 19” wheels in the back, special Nappa Pearl leather seats, and Alcantara suede inserts. Most notably, the SRT-6 boasted a supercharged 3.2L V6 engine which produced up to 330 horsepower and 310 pounds-per- foot of torque mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.
Chrysler discontinued the SRT-6 trim come the 2007 model year. For the 2008 version of the Crossfire, the base model was dropped from the lineup as well, leaving only the Limited trim. The Crossfire Limited took over the wheel sizing from the previous SRT-6 (18” in front, 19” rear). It was also outfitted with dual-zone manual air conditioning, power-adjustable heated leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, full power accessories, and a host of other amenities it had previously been equipped with. The same 3.2L V6 drivetrain was carried over once again, offering either the six-speed manual transmission of the five-speed automatic with manual mode. When it came to safety features, antilock brakes, brake assist, traction control stability control, and side airbags were standard parts on the Chrysler Crossfire.
Fashionable and sporting, the Chrysler Crossfire provides a wide range of qualities that its drivers enjoy. A luxurious feel rises from the interior, blending comfort and economy in a way most models cannot compete with. Its V6 is strong enough to give the fistic strength to rule the highway without going overboard in what the Crossfire was designed for – sporty travel. Chrysler has always put an emphasis on creativity melded with efficiency and the Crossfire encompasses that very concept in spades.
