The FWD Chevy Montana (sold by Chevrolet in Latin America) is known as the Tornado in Mexico. The Tornado Coupé utility arrived in 2004 to replace the aged Corsa B and carried the Tornado name tag because of Pontiac already using the Montana name for its model in Mexico at the time. By the way, the Chevy Tornado was the only Brazilian-built vehicle in the Mexican Chevrolet lineup. The Tornado combines the utility of a full-size pickup with the comfort and maneuverability of a passenger car. Based on the Corsa C, which was discontinued from Chevrolet's Mexican lineup after the 2008 model year, the Chevy Tornado managed to live for a few more years.
The design of the first-gen Tornado is a variation of Opel’s Corsa, while its second generation is based on the Chevy Agile. The Chevy Tornado comes standard with a choice of a 1.4-liter “Ecoflex” and a 1.8-liter 8V flex-fuel I4 engines, and with horsepower peaking at 105. The 5-speed manual is standard, the wheelbase is 106.9 inches. The 2007 Tornado is available in two versions, including the Conquest and Sport featuring a different design and a set of accessories not available in the Conquest. The Tornado is pretty civilized on the road and comes with a sufficient level of ride comfort. Thanks to the relatively firm suspension, the Tornado has decent body control in corners. According to the manufacturer, the trunk of the Tornado can be loaded with up to 1,630 pounds. With over 5.5 cubic feet of space behind the Tornado’s two seats, you won’t have any problem in finding a place to stow big items.
Could you imagine something like the Chevy Spark with a small cab for two, a beefed up suspension, and a truck bed? That’s kind of what the Chevy Tornado is.
