The combination of the most successful attributes of the minivan, luxury car, and sport utility vehicle is embodied by Buick division of General Motors in the mid-size crossover SUV called the Buick Rendezvous, which first appeared in 2001. The car was built on the U-platform, shortened version of GM's minivan, and boasted a Versatrack, optional fully automatic four-wheel-drive system, discontinued altogether in 2007. In 2002-2003 the only available engine was a 3.4L V6 delivering 185 horsepower, but later in 2004 the 3.6L DOHC V6 with 245 horsepower option was added. All engines were paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.
The Rendezvous was originally available in 2 trim levels: CX and CXL. The Ultra and Quiet Tuning versions were added in 2004 and 2006 respectively. Buick considered this SUV a premium crossover, that is why even the lowest CX trim was completed with such amenities as air conditioner, CD player, keyless entry, and power accessories in the standard package of Buick Rendezvous parts, and delivered 5 passenger arrangement. Actually, due to its third row, Rendezvous was able to carry up to seven passengers. The safety level of this crossover was tested by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) through the front offset crash test, that gave an overall 'Accetable' rating.
There was a number of modifications and refinement to the Buick Rendezvous parts and styling, which allowed the model to become one of the roomier SUV's on the market. The Buick Rendezvous was noticed in the Eminem's music video 'Not Afraid' and aired in the commercials featuring Tiger Wolf during the Buick Classic Golf Tournament.
A tasteful mix of luxurious handling and off-road sensibilities highlights this pioneering crossover, and thus has become one of the templates for which the modern day SUV is viewed. The Rendezvous is one of Buick most recent powerhouses. Independent rear-suspension allows for that temperate drivability that you might expect from a luxury sedan, and the interior spacing capacity gives every driver the added comfort that can be so necessary on today's roads. The Buick Rendezvous is a highly-impressive example of automotive intuitiveness.
