The Buick Electra was a line of full-size luxury cars offered through 1959-90 across six generations. The model was named after Electra Waggoner Biggs, who was a sister-in-law of Harlow Curtis, GM’s president of the time. As the Electra was intended to replace two Buick models, the Roadmaster and Super, it was originally offered in two versions, the Electra and Electra 225, which differed between each other in size, trim level, and minor styling cues. For the 1962 model year, Buick discontinued the Electra leaving the Electra 225, whose numeric part of the name stood for the model's length measured in inches. Later on, the 225 was adopted as a trim level offered alongside the Custom, Limited, Park Avenue, and others.
