The BMW Z4 is a two-seat sports car that premiered for the 2003 model year. The Z4 was introduced with the kind of styling and accessories that has become synonymous with aggressive sports styling: a long hood, a lowered stance, and a traditional front-engine rear-drive layout. Upon its debut, the Z4 was made available as a soft-top roadster and coupe. What parts were under the hood depended on the trim, which came in two levels - 2.5i and 3.0i. The 2.5i was outfitted with a 2.5L six-cylinder engine good for 184 horsepower. 3.0i models were equipped with a 3.0L six-cylinder engine which got credit for churning out 225 horsepower. Engines were mated to either a standard five-speed manual transmission, an optional five-speed automatic, or a six-speed sequential manual transmission.

In 2006 BMW gave the Z4 an update. Offered as a roadster and fixed-roof coupe, the model was available in two trim levels, the 3.0i and 3.0si. The 3.0i showcased a 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine (215 hp) while the 3.0si got its punch from a 3.0L six-cylinder which pumped out 255 horsepower (coupe models came in 3.0si only). Engines were mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The suspension and other BMW Z4 parts were adjusted as well, promoting firmer handling. For 2007, a tire-pressure monitor was implemented as standard along with an auxiliary audio input jack.

2009 saw BMW give the Z4 a full redesign. Gone was the coupe version of the vehicle. Trim levels were also changed to sDrive30i and sDrive35i. The base sDrive30i is equipped with a 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine good for 255 horsepower and 220 pounds-per-foot of torque directed through a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic. The more powerful sDrive35i received a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine rated at 300 horsepower and 300 pounds-per-foot of torque. Once again, a six-speed manual transmission was made standard with a seven-speed dual clutch automated manual listed as an option. As for safety features, side-impact airbags, antilock brakes (with brake assist), stability control, and traction control were all included as standard equipment on the Z4.

The Z4 demonstrates singular performance and unbridled style in a physically dominant manner. There is nothing quite like the authentic look and feel of the Z4, and that is how it has risen to prominence. Its aggressive design showcases the personality of the drivers who chase after this model, and that is what it was designed for. Luxurious? Yes. The lustrous interior and high-tech dash panel just adds on to the whole look that is otherwise astounding. The Z4 is quickly becoming a legend in its own time.
