A shock absorber, also known as a damper, is a device whose duty is to convert kinetic energy into heat. The device does it using a liquid (typically complemented by a gas chamber) that interacts with a fairly sophisticated internal architecture of the cylinder and the piston’s head. Accompanied by pressure extremes, the process gradually ruins the sealing ultimately resulting in a leak. Through the relatively small amount of oil and massive pressure, the leak nearly instantly makes the shock pointless. The impaired shock doesn’t do what it’s supposed to while bringing the driver a bit of a trouble.
