The Audi A5 is a sporty luxury midsize coupe that debuted in 2007. It is based primarily on the A4 sedan and shares with it the same Audi Modular Longitudinal Platform, which showcases the powertrain being placed behind the front axle. And like all contemporary Audi models, the A5 boasts the Quattro all-wheel drive system, which provides a 40/60 percent power split front to rear. Along with all-wheel drive, the A5 also offers a heavy dose of luxury accessories, an upscale interior, and solid performance thanks to a punchy V6 engine and some performance-oriented engine parts. A convertible version of the model became available in the second half of the 2009 model year.
The A5 rolled off the line initially equipped with a 3.2L V6 direct-inject engine capable of 265 horsepower and 243 pounds-per-foot of torque mated to either a six-speed automatic transmission or six-speed automatic. The S5 variant receives extra pop from the factory with a 4.2L V8 rated at 349 horsepower with similar gearbox options. Only one trim level is available for the A5 and comes with plenty of amenities inside the cabin. Leather seats, wood grain trim, automatic “tri-zone” climate control, and a 10-speaker stereo are all standard. Package of additional Audi A5 parts and components includes xenon HID headlights, GPS navigation, park assist with a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. The Audi A5 S-line package shows off 19” alloy wheels and a stiffer sport-tuned suspension.
On the outside of the Audi A5, the brand's signature front-end grille takes center-stage while the rest of the vehicle is lauded for its smooth, aero-inspired body shape. Safety features are a big part of the A5 as well. Stability control, antilock brakes, front airbags, and side-curtain airbags all come standard, while a blind-spot warning system is offered optional. While it is still early in the model's run, the Audi A5 has been noticed throughout the industry. The A5 was the recipient of Automobile magazine's Design of the Year Award (2009) and was also named a Consumer Guide Best Buy (2009).
This is one model known for oozing luxury, so it is natural for drivers of the A5 to feel the need to inject a little more personal influence whenever they can in order to make their model stand out that much more. This Audi star is known for having it all: strong performance, sporty good looks, upscale comfort, and plenty of technology. It's no wonder why it is has become a fast favorite for luxury car buyers.
