    Product Details

BedStep™ Retractable Flip Down Bumper Step by AMP Research®. Finish: Black Anodized. Add easy accessibility to the rear cargo area of your pickup or sport utility with this wide step pad that mounts to your vehicle frame. Supports 300 pounds, and the grippy composite step pad surface is wide enough for two large workboots. Aluminum construction with stainless steel pivot pins provides high strength and freedom from corrosion. Does not require a trailer hitch for mounting.

    Installation

Add a stylish and useful rear step to make accessing your truck or SUV's rear cargo area easier and safer with the BedStep Bumper Step by AMP Research. Not only is it rated to hold 300 pounds, its footing surface area is one of the widest on the market – allowing you to place both feet on it for better dexterity while you work. While most rear steps require a rear trailer hitch for mounting, this one does not. Instead, it secures to the vehicle frame member typically found underneath or behind your rear bumper. So if you don't have a trailer hitch, the BedStep Bumper Step still gives you back-saving functionality. And if you do have a trailer hitch, you can use it for other things without removing your Bumper Step because its retracting design effectively keeps it out of the way.

    Worth It!!!
If you have a lifted Ford F-250 this could be the best mod. Safety is the key, trying to access and leave the truck bed without this product is dangerous.

Step w/ Room for Quality Improvement
My F150 truck came without the origin tailgate step from the company. Getting on and off the bed became arduous. I decided to buy the bumper step. Find here pros and cons of this step. Fitting was great. The step fits perfectly under the bumper, retracts spring-powered and it easy to extend. The whole principle is great. But, the quality of the surface coating of the step was poor. Fitting of the step pad was poor as well. Had to trim it a bit. Was too much plastic under it. This prevented from snapping into the gap of the lower arm. The step came with all required screws. But, two of them were made of cheap metal. I used a professional nut but the head of these screws, holding the arm to the base structure were so weak I twisted all corners. Threw them away and replaced them by high quality screws. The threads of the base structure were not covered during coating. This required to recut the threads. No worries if you have metric threat cutter. Recommendation: tighten both screws of the arm before installing the step to your bumper. This is much easier. To be prepared for the water and the salt of the road: the step gets an additional layer of coating. Summarize: great step, but for $240 bucks I expected a much better quality without any rework.

    BedStep2
I installed both the BedStep and BedStep2 on my 2022 F350. The install was super easy and the steps are great. The instructions for the BedStep2 call for drilling a hole in the frame. But I found the hole was there from the factory and the install was even easier than I expected.

    OK but...
I'm bruised and bleeding but I got it done in 3.5 hours. First off I wasted an hour trying to get the main bracket to fit on the driver's side. IT WILL NOT without modification. So, I tried it on the passenger side and if fit so I decided to install it on that side instead (not ideal). Everything eventually fit. Instructions are poor, hardware was missing but a puzzle solver can figure it out. One of the bolts holding the main bracket was impossible to get any kind of a wrench on and was not doable with fingers so 1/6 of a revolution at a time using an open end and 1/2 hour later it was finally in. When I saw that installation only required drilling one hole and that was for a rivet insert i thought "high class". The rivnut installation was brutal. First of all it is a huge hole in a cramped location. The location of the required hole hit a weld on the back side and was hell getting thru. This also created an uneven surface for the rivnut to clamp up against but it worked half assed I guess. Overall, It is a clever but rube goldberg assy but, as a mechanical engineer I agreed with every part of the design except for the one brace that attaches to the bed. Everything else is attached to the frame except for that one brace. The step works well, deploys and stows easily and looks like it is tucked up enough to avoid being damaged. I'm leery of the plastic step held on with screws in plastic threads so we'll see. I consider myself an experienced auto/aircraft mechanic (45 yrs) with decent skills.

What Is the Difference Between Flip Down or Retractable
I want to order these steps and it's asking me if i prefer the flip down or retractable. Anyone know what the difference is? Thanks.

    Should Be OEM
The step is amazing. I wish it was OEM, it should be especially as trucks keep getting taller. Easy install, easy to use. Seems very sturdy. Works great with gate up or down. I look forward to the summer season of camping and boating where it will REALLY be useful.

    Necessary
I purchased the Driver Side Truck Bed. Choose the STEP according to where you need it. I will be purchasing the DRIVER SIDE TRUCK BED step too. So if you can, purchase both? It won't be a regrettable purchase. The SIDE STEP will help access items instead of climbing up all the time. Installation is super easy. It is very strong for standing and stepping up and down. Bring it down with your foot. Tuck it back up, not at all conspicuous. It won't come down until you physically put it down. Hope this helps. It is annoying when reviews are like " good quality item" or shipping was slow or fast.

    Good Product
Bedstep looks good and works as advertised. Some difficulty in installation as written instructions were lacking, depending only on pictorial graphics. Instructions were not specific to my Chevy Silverado 1500 which made install more difficult than need be. 2 bolts sent, without nuts, were too small and required reusing OEM bolts for bracket install. Equipment gets 5 stars but instructions get 2.
