The Acura RDX debuted at the 2006 New York Auto Show in advance of the 2007 model year. It represents Acura's first foray into compact SUVs and is noted for its sporty looks, high-end accessories, precise handling, and enhanced cargo area. With the MDX larger, the RDX takes over as Acura's entry-level SUV. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder engine capable of 240 horsepower and 260 pounds-per-foot of torque. It also comes standard with a five-speed Sport-Shift automatic transmission, which is a sequential-shift system that features paddles located on the steering wheel.

Acura's vaunted SH-AWD system (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) is standard as well, similar to the RL. And unlike other Acura models, which share platforms with their Honda siblings, the RDX is constructed on its own platform due to the presence of SH-AWD. The cabin showcases such amenities as leather upholstery, rearview camera, USB port, and a six-CD disc changer with 260 watts. Options include tech-savvy details like voice-activated navigation and solar-sensing climate control. In its second year of production such parts as an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, power-memory driver's seat, and Bluetooth capability became available.

Safety features abound inside the SUC. Dual front airbags, front-side airbags, and dual side-curtain airbags are all standard parts of the Acura RDX. Active head restraints with pre-tensioners are also employed. As for recent changes, 2010 brought on a new front-end grille and other restyling cues. In its otherwise brief history, the Acura RDX has posted respectable sales numbers for its segment, averaging approximately 16,450 units sold per year from 2007-2009. It has also picked up numerous awards, including being nominated for Motor Trend magazine's Sport Utility of the Year (2007) and being named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick for 2009.

The land of crossover SUVs hasn't just changed in recent years, it has morphed into a fierce battle between manufacturers to see who can pump out the most athletic, fashionable, and nifty model on the planet. It has been a quest for domination. Acura lands a telling blow with the RDX. The Acura RDX comes prepped and ready to impress, showcasing a wide range of creature comforts to provide a cozy living room experience while still offering enough pep to put a smile on your face. While most others in this segment blend in, the RDX is one stylish crossover that plays by its own rules.
