After a two-decade absence, the Honda Passport nameplate is back for the 2019 model year. This mid-size crossover SUV is essentially a shorter version of Honda's three-row Pilot, with seating capacity reduced to five. It is underpinned by the automaker's Global Light Truck platform, which is the same foundation used by the Pilot and Ridgeline. And like its corporate siblings, the new Passport is built in Honda's Alabama factory. In the tough mid-size SUV segment, the Passport will challenge the likes of Jeep's Grand Cherokee and Ford's Edge, boasting more interior space than the two. Smart suspension packaging gives the new SUV its ample cargo space, which measures 41 cu.-ft. with the 2nd row up and grows to 77.9 cubes with the seatbacks folded flat.
The 2019 Passport is offered in the base Sport, upmarket EX-L, premium Touring, and fully-packed Elite trims. The Honda Sensing array of driver aids is standard across the range. Other highlights of standard equipment include 20-inch alloy wheels, a 5” console display, 6-speaker audio, remote start, and LED exterior lights. Some of the notable options are an automatic tailgate, moonroof, Wi-Fi, wireless smartphone charging, and more. Those who enjoy an active lifestyle can get their hands on the Adventure package that offers factory-installed 2019 Honda Passport accessories and parts for weekend trips, including a trailer hitch and running boards. City dwellers can opt for the Urban package that adds cosmetic upgrades like unique wheel designs, roof rails, and lip extensions, among other 2019 Honda Passport accessories.
All models are motivated by a 3.5-liter V6, which is also manufactured at the automaker's Alabama facility and shared with the Passport's platform siblings. It makes 280 HP and 262 lb.-ft. of torque, placing the vehicle close to the top of its segment for standard power. The output is managed by a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic, which delivers it to the front or all four wheels. All-wheel drive can be had on any trim grade while being standard on the Elite. Named i-VTM4, which stands for Intelligent Variable Torque Management, this AWD system offers selectable modes for sand, mud, and snow. By means of active torque vectoring, the system directs up to 70% of torque to the back end, distributing that torque sideways. Speaking of the tow rating, the Honda Passport can pull 3,500 lb, but that can be boosted to 5,000 lb with a special tow package and AWD. If you need anything to improve your vehicle's capability, performance, comfort, or other characteristics, you'll find the right 2019 Honda Passport parts and accessories in our selection.
