Although there is a huge number of vehicles of all forms, shapes, prices, and capabilities available now, the Jeep Wrangler remains in the class of its own as a tough machine built with the only purpose – to conquer the harshest terrain. However, even its uniqueness cannot save it from aging, which is why the Wrangler also has to provide updates on a yearly basis. Given that this SUV was deeply redesigned for the 2007 model year, the list of changes for 2008 is quite short. Both the short-wheelbase and the recently added four-door Unlimited models can now be offered with the Sahara Appearance package adding 18-inch wheels, a couple of bright interior tweaks, and making remote start an option. The stiffer frame, the new 3.8-liter V-6 engine with its 202 horsepower, the choice of transmissions and the beefed-up suspension represented a year before remain the same. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual in the standard configuration or a 4-speed automatic as an option.

There are also some changes made to the two-door Wrangler only. The Sunrider soft top becomes standard for the Sahara and Rubicon models, while the hard top remains an optional extra. For the 2008 model year, the Wrangler also adds the X RHD version - a right-hand-drive vehicle meant for rural mail delivery and other similar tasks making it more favorable to position the driver on the right. The rest of Jeep’s lineup carries over, while being able to offer as much ruggedness and off-road potency as ever. As for safety, the Wrangler offers stability control, anti-lock brake system and front air bags as standard.
