Launched for the 1997 model year, the tenth-generation Ford F-150 has closely approached the halfway point of its production run by 1999. It received the modular intercooled 5.4 L SOHC 16-valve Triton engine boosted by the factory-installed Eaton supercharger. In tandem, the two are good for 360 horses and 440 pound-feet of torque accelerating the pickup truck from zero to 60 mph in just over five seconds.

Apart from an array of heavy-duty parts meant to adequately cope with that impressive potential, the Lightning was provided with a new front fascia look, unique fog lights, air deflectors and rocker bars underpinning the side panels. In terms of the regular Ford F-150 models, only some minor convenience features were added. Also, because of the introduction of the Super Duty family, Ford pushes the F-250 based on its smaller sibling a step further – now it is a brand new vehicle playing in the higher league. No changes were made to the appearance of the 2000 truck. However, the mid-cycle exterior refresh is undoubtedly coming soon.
