The legendary Camaro by Chevy was introduced back in 1966. Designed as an answer to the popular Ford Mustang, it turned out to become one of the world's most historic models. Back in 1966, it was constructed on the all-new F platform by General Motors. The lineup of available body styles included a 2-door hardtop and convertible. The base engine was a 3.8 L I6 good for 140 hp directed through a 3-speed manual. For 1967, there were plentiful engine options. As for the available transmissions, apart from the standard column-mounted option, buyers could get their hands on a floor-mounted 4-speed manual and 2-speed automatic. The 1967 Camaro SS utilized a 5.7 L V8 delivering 300 hp, while a 6.5 L V8 that developed 325 hp was available as an option. A special Z/28 variant of the Camaro used a 4.9 L V8 with the advertised power output of 290 hp.

The 1967 Chevy Camaro offered a wide range of options – 80 factory options, 40 dealer accessories, and 3 option packages. The RS package offered lots of appearance upgrades, such as RS badging, hidden headlights, blacked-out grille, revised tail lights and parking lights, and upgraded interior trim. The SS package, apart from a more potent engine, featured simulated hood air intakes, special striping as well as SS badging on the fenders, gas cap, and blacked-out grille. The Z/28 package featured a special 4-speed manual transmission by Muncie, aluminum intake manifold, front disc brakes, competition suspension, and racing stripes. This car was capable of reaching 140 mph and earned lots of racing victories. However, the model came without the Z/28 badging and wasn’t mentioned in sales brochures, that’s why it was unknown to the general public.

The 1967 Camaro was based on the other Chevrolet car, the compact Nova. Yet it had its own distinctive body styling that now is considered to be an iconic pony car. The model had a recognizable profile formed by a long hood and short deck in the rear. The Camaro rode on a 108.1” wheelbase and used an unitized body-chassis construction. The front suspension setup was largely similar to that of the Toronado and the rear one was borrowed from the Chevelle.
