The Saturn Ion was a compact car produced by the Saturn division of the General Motors Company 2003-2007. Saturn Ion replaced Saturn S-Series in 2003 and was itself replaced with the Astra in 2008. The Ion was available in sedan and coupe forms, and it seated up to 5 passengers. The instrumental panel was turned towards the driver to make handling easier and safer. The first Ion came off with 2.2L 140hp engine equipped with both mechanic and automatic transmissions.

The Ions of the 2005 model year were equipped with manual transmission only, as there were some problems with the automatic one. The new edition was equipped with a 2.4L 170hp engine. The 2005th Ions had minor changes done to the Ion interior parts. Steering wheel was replaced with the new one, and the seats received new fabrics. The 2007th Ion got lots of improvements in comparison with the previous versions. The new 2.2L engine developed the power of over 145hp, 2.4L engine increased its power up to 175hp. The production of the Ions was stopped in 2007. During the NHTSA crash tests all Ions received 4 stars for the safety systems. All engines were working rather quietly, thus the driver wouldn't be bothered with the engine noise when riding the Ion. The riding was smooth and the handling was pretty comfortable.
