Developed for the rigors of motorsport, the Type 380 is easy to attach and conforms perfectly to the inner surface of the wheel. Each tape is composed of 12 individual 5g segments, easily split without tools to achieve the perfect balance. The adhesive is both easy to reposition while on the balancing machine, but develops tremendous adhesion while in service. These weights are tested from -40°F to 485°F, and undergo 750 hours of salt-spray testing. If you balance a lot of tires, these weights can be easily removed, even after years, without leaving a foam residue behind, saving time at the racetrack or in the shop. The improved adhesive is even effective when the wheel hasn’t been cleaned thoroughly, reducing the incidence of thrown weights.
These supremely thin (0.160”) weights will clear virtually any brake caliper, and their low profile makes them hard to detect visually. Lead wheel weights are outlawed in many places: that’s why these weights are made from environmentally safe zinc. And unlike the steel weights coming into use, soft zinc weights can’t lock up the brakes if they’re thrown, preventing a potential accident.
Unlike other weights, which are basically in bare metal, Hofmann Power Weight 380 weights are available in an assortment of colors so you can match the color of the weight to the color of the wheel, including chrome. Why spend a month’s pay on a set of custom wheels and then clip on a NAPA-store weight that looks like it came over the hump a couple of wars ago? And after a few months and a few rainstorms, that same weight will corrode, and make your expensive alloy wheel corrode under it. The flexible powdercoat applied to these weights prevents corrosion or metal-to-metal contact.
