The Subaru WRX has a fun to drive character and distinctive boy racer styling to match. It is already a nice combination to attract driving enthusiasts, while the standard all-wheel drive system and enough room for five make this sport compact rather family-friendly for its class, regardless of the region. For the 2020 model year, Subaru adds some tweaks to this proven formula. First off, the Performance package adds some new 2020 Subaru WRX accessories and parts, which include Recaro sport seats that can be adjusted in 8 ways and a complete Brembo brake setup on each wheel, as opposed to just Brembo-branded pads before. The most potent performer in the lineup – the WRX STI – gets new standard goodies such as keyless entry and start, remodeled cooling ducts, and dark gray finished aluminum alloy wheels. The Series.Gray edition, introduced just last year, has already been discontinued for 2020. Instead, buyers who kick the tires on the WRX or WRX STI can have it with the Series.White special-edition treatment. Along with a snow-white exterior paint and a matching set of bronze wheels and performance tires, the package adds Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, and Bilstein shocks.

The WRX carries over with a sole 2.0-liter turbo-four delivering the same 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It’s a formidable output that is managed by either a 6-speed manual or a CVT. It comes at a cost of fuel economy, which is rated at 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Even more so with the STI model, which gets 310 horsepower from its 2.5-liter boxer-four but has a 17-mpg city/22-mpg hwy EPA estimate. The automaker’s sophisticated AWD helps both in harsh weather conditions and during sharp turns on a race track. Two different setups are available depending on the gearbox. The CVT-equipped WRX models have an electronically controlled planetary gear center diff, while those with a stick feature a viscous coupling setup. In any way, there’s excellent traction on any road surface. As expected, the 2020 WRX is rather stiff, but that’s common when performance is a priority.

Despite being designed for hard driving, the Impreza-derived WRX is more than capable of hauling your family around in relative comfort. There’s enough space for passengers in both rows. The sport seats on all trim levels are supportive to keep you straight in tight turns, while being comfortable enough for daily driving. The interior design is minimalist, with simple controls and prevailing black surfaces. For those who want to liven it up with some color, a wide selection of aftermarket accessories and parts is available. Likewise, owners are free to customize the exterior with aggressive accessories and/or give their car a performance edge with 2020 Subaru WRX parts like an aftermarket exhaust or suspension upgrades. Safety features are plentiful on models with a continuously variable transmission (Premium and Limited); they get Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology which includes active cruise control and automatic braking.

Paid extra for the emblem and it was absolutely the right call. The embroidery is well done and truly adds a nice touch. Hope there won’t be any fading or issues with the mats anytime soon.
