The Ford GT was designed to pay homage to one of America's greatest race cars, the Ford GT40, famous for its winning streak at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 60s. Its latest incarnation debuted in the form of a carbon fiber supercar at the auto show in Detroit in 2015, created in celebration of 50 years since the first victory at this challenging demolition derby. There's a total of only 1,000 cars scheduled for production, with 250 units built annually for four model years. Although it is already a rare car, Ford added even more exclusivity with the 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition. This special edition package was designed in honor of the legendary GT40 Mark IV racing car that pulled out a win against Ferrari at Le Mans in 1967, with Carroll Shelby’s team of Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt on board.
To celebrate that glorious victory, the Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition car comes dressed up in red-and-white heritage colors, with No. 1 graphics proudly adorning the hood and doors. This car rolls on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels accentuated by black lug nuts and red calipers. The interior features a well-balanced combination of 2018 Ford GT accessories trimmed in red and painted in black, with red contrast stitching on leather seats and steering wheel and red seatbelts. Metallic trim brings a nice finishing touch to the instrument panel and x-brace, while carbon fiber accents adorn the center console and door sills.
Under its aerodynamically optimized skin, all 2018 Ford GT accessories and parts are targeted at pure performance. It has lightweight aluminum subframes and is built around a carbon fiber tub, and in general, there are nearly 250 carbon fiber pieces in this car. Power that rockets the car to a max speed of 216 mph comes from a mid-mounted 3.5L EcoBoost V6. This mighty twin-turbo engine develops 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of twist, directed through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Stopping this massive power is a set of carbon-ceramic brakes by Brembo. 2018 Ford GT parts of the hydraulic pushrod suspension system, which include long arms, active electronic DSSV dampers, and a torsion bar are specifically tuned for sport. Depending on a selected driving mode, which include Wet, Normal, Sport, Track, and straight-line speed ready V-Max, the suspension is raised and lowered, damping is calibrated, and transmission settings are adjusted to provide maximum traction and stability in any conditions.
