For 2001, the Ram by Dodge received a number of improvements, mainly concerning its mechanicals. A 5.9 L V8 engine can now be paired to a 6-speed manual, while a turbodiesel by Cummins (5.9 L I6) was slightly upgraded. Besides, Rams equipped with the Cummins unit can be fitted with electronic cruise control. All 2500 and 3500 versions of the truck received an improved braking system featuring ABS as standard. Also new for 2001, child seat anchors were installed at the rear of the cabin. The only exterior update is the addition of two new color options.

The 2001 Dodge Ram can be powered by a wide range of engines. The base 1500 version utilizes a 3.9 L V6 capable of delivering 175 hp, offering two more potent power plants as options. They are a 5.2 L V8 producing 230 hp and a 5.9 L V8 that develops 245 hp. 4WD versions of the 2001 Ram come only with V8 engines. The list of transmissions consists of a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. The base power plant for the Ram 2500 is a 5.9 L V8 that serves up 245 hp, with the 5.9 L I6 by Cummins rated at 235 hp offered optionally. The truck can also be fitted with an 8.0 L V10 that can deliver 310 hp. The choice of transmissions includes the same options as the 1500, plus a 6-speed manual. The 3500 variant employs the same powertrain options as the 2500, but all models feature dual rear wheels.

The 1500 version of the 2001 Dodge Ram offers 12 different combinations in total, including two bed options (6.5-ft and 8-ft), 2WD and 4WD, standard and Club cabs, and other choices. An Off-road package is available for short-bed 1500s, it includes a limited-slip differential, fog lights, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, unique cast aluminum wheels, special suspension that features front and rear shock absorbers, front stabilizer and front and rear springs, skid plates, heavy-duty service group, and special graphics.

2001 Dodge Ram Accessories Reviews

I've been using these headlights for about 3 months now on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. I was looking for a budget upgrade for my work truck -- I didn't actually want any aesthetic improvements (it's a work truck) but wanted to see better in the rain at night. I was looking for projectors specifically. Installation was pretty easy, the video provided a decent description (the install bolts are 10mm). The install fit is a little finnicky, but that's reasonable since it's replacing a 2-part system with a single unit. I scratched my bumper a little bit with the lower mount, but I wasn't being super careful because the bumper has seen worse. Projection from the headlights is good, exactly what you'd want with a projector. I had some H1 LED's that I tried test-fitting and the cooling fins in the back wouldn't fit within the rubber boot. I'd be wary of considering LED's with these, for what it's worth. The high beams are great, though I've only used them a little bit since I mainly drive in the city. The DRLs were easy to hook up using old fog light wires my truck happened to have. They look nice and are quite bright. My one complaint is that the headlight bulb aim adjuster is not accessible while mounted on the vehicle, except maybe through some unique tool. If you crawl under the bumper you can see the adjuster, but it needs a #2 phillips somewhere in between a stubby and the commonly available 4" (I even tried cutting off most of the handle of a 4"). to access the gear. There's a phillips #2 on the face but there's no room to access it. My headlights are currently aimed quite low and removing them to adjust is too difficult to repeat a bunch of times. I broke off the tabs on my drivers corner bulb trying this several times. My last effort will be one of those 1/4" hex ratchets, which may hit the sweet spot. Totally worth the price for a 20+ year old truck if you're looking for improved drivability in my opinion.
