The first samples of alloy wheels date back to the first half of the twentieth century, and their popularity increased in the late 1950s and during the 1960s. Today, they are more advanced than ever, as the technological progress within the industry allows for a larger offer at more affordable costs. Alloy rims are made using casting, flow-forming, and forging techniques. Forged wheels have always been considered several notches above the rest. During the forging process, billet aluminum is subject to huge pressures and high temperatures, resulting in a denser molecular structure and a lighter and more robust final product.
Forged wheels can be made from a single piece, called monoblock, or comprised of two or three pieces. While the monoblock type is lighter and more suitable for high-performance and racing applications, two- and three-piece wheels are more versatile and offer a balanced cost/performance ratio which makes them a favorite pick for the racing environment and among many car tuning enthusiasts. 18-inch forged wheels are available in many colors, finishes, and lip/face/insert configurations to meet different needs and tastes. Some models are specifically designed to cope with rugged off-road terrains, while others possess the tasteful designs and superior quality to match the world’s most exotic supercars.
