It's no secret that quality forged wheels are far from being cheap, but that is so for a reason. Forging itself is a complex process, which begins with a piece of high-grade aluminum alloy warmed up to the necessary temperature. Then the blank is subjected to considerable pressure utilizing a hydraulic press, which applies a huge force to provide the necessary mechanical properties. Afterwards, the product is cooled down and machined into its final shape, utilizing top-of-the-line computer-aided machining equipment. The process of forging allows the aluminum blank to become denser and eliminate air bubbles and pores, which results in greater structural integrity and resistance to various impacts.
In turn, the higher strength of the billet enables engineers to use a smaller amount of aluminum, which is why such forged rims offer considerable weight savings. Lighter wheels mean lower unsprung weight, which makes the suspension work less hard and have a better grip on the road surface.
