The hubs are the mounts for your vehicle’s wheels, and the bearings inside the hubs allow them to turn freely. The condition of your wheel bearings is critical for both performance and safety. There are 3 hub and bearing configurations. The most common today is the unit, or integral hub and bearing assembly that often includes the ABS sensor. These cannot be disassembled and are replaced as a unit. Some hub unit bearings on front wheel drive vehicles require removal of the steering knuckle, and the bearing and hub are then pressed apart and back together. Finally, there are non-driven axle hubs with opposed, replaceable tapered roller bearings.
Bearings that are loose and worn can cause noise and vibration, and severely damaged bearings could even cause loss of the wheel. If you feel vibration or hear grinding, humming, rumbling or growling noise, your wheel bearings should be checked. After raising and safely supporting the vehicle, rotate the wheel while pushing in and out and feel for roughness. Remove the brake caliper and rotor, grasp the hub and perform the same inspection. Finally, mount a dial indicator, positioning the tip against the hub. Check for play and compare with manufacturer’s specifications.
Replaceable tapered roller bearings can be checked for roughness once play is removed, but the most accurate inspection requires that the hub be removed, the bearings cleaned and then visually inspected. Check the rollers and races (cups) for signs of scoring, spalling, brinelling, peeling, corrosion, looseness, and any other signs of damage. If replacement is required, new races must be installed in the hub and the bearings and hub cavity thoroughly packed with a quality high temperature, extreme pressure wheel bearing grease. Upon reinstallation, the bearing end-play must be adjusted to specification.
Regardless of the type of bearings on your car or truck, or the damage incurred, we have the replacement hub and bearing assemblies, wheel hub repair kits, and individual bearings and seals, to restore safe operation. We also have a large selection of related components like bolts and wheel studs, so you can perform a complete repair. All parts are manufactured to meet or exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications, so you can be assured of precise fitment, flawless performance, and long lasting durability. We handpick products from brands that go the extra mile to ensure their quality, including SKF, Centric, TRQ, MOOG, and ACDelco, just to name a few.
If you have a high-performance vehicle, even the smallest things can influence the way it rides. Wheel hubs, bearings and seals we offer in our store are designed to deliver outstanding performance and reduce friction to the minimum. When you modify your off-road vehicle with plus-size wheels and tires, installing performance wheel hubs and bearings that can handle the added weight becomes especially important. Wheel hubs we offer are made of steel and precision machined, with premium wheel bearings strong enough to endure the increased load and seals that make sure grease stays where it belongs. Make CARiD your one-stop shopping destination for performance wheel hubs and bearings, and you will never want to go to another store again. Riding on bearings and hubs you got in our store means riding safely with a piece of mind.
