The 850 model is a Swedish luxury car unveiled by Volvo in June 1991 for the 1992 model year. Available as a 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon, the 850 was the first Volvo's front-wheel-drive car to be sold in North America and the first company's all-wheel-drive vehicle ever. The Volvo 850 utilized a new 5-cylinder motor and Delta-link rear axle. For safety purposes, it had such innovative features as the self-adjusting seat belt reel (only for the front seats) and side impact protection system. The 850 was pretty maneuverable – its turning circle was just 33.5 ft in diameter. In 1997, the Volvo 850 was ceased in favor of the Volvo V70 and Volvo S70.
