Introduced in 1974 as part of the 200 Series, the Volvo 260 boasted some features that placed the model a level above the other 200s. A powerful six-cylinder engine of this car was jointly developed by Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo; meanwhile, the exterior featured several unique parts such as a large front grille. The car was available as a 2- or 4-door sedan and as a 5-door station wagon. In 1977, a coupe sketched by the well-known Italian design house Bertone, the 262C model, joined the lineup and allowed the Swedish carmaker to enter the luxury market segment. The coupe was dropped in 1981, and the rest models of the 260 Series were superseded by the Volvo 760 in 1982.
