The Volvo 1800 was the automaker’s second attempt to create a sports car. Unlike its 1900 predecessor, this sports car gained popularity and received much praise. The Volvo 1800 first rolled off the assembly line in 1961 and was produced until 1973. The available body styles included coupe and station wagon. Originally known as the P1800, this rear-wheel drive automobile featured a 1.8L I4 rated for 100 hp. Later on, the automobile was renamed the 1800S and its power output was increased to 115 hp. In 1970, the name was changed again and this sports car was sold as the 1800E outfitted with a new 130-hp 2.0L I4. The final version of the Volvo 1800 was launched in 1972 and was referred to as the 1800ES.
