Volkswagen contracted with the German coach builder, Karmann Company, to build such a car. In its turn, Karmann approached the Italian design studio. As a result of cooperation between two talents, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was born. This car combined brilliant German engineering dressed in an amazingly beautiful Italian body. The first Karmann Ghia, in a coupe body style, rolled off the assembly line in 1956. Car fans at once fell in love with this vehicle. The Karmann Ghia was sold well, with more than 10,000 units sold during the first year. In 1957 the convertible version of the Karmann Ghia was presented. No wonder the Karmann Ghia was recognized as one of the most beautifully designed cars in the world thanks to its elegant, timeless design.
