My car had no oil leaks
Installed this in my 2002 e36 when I had a small amount of oil above the spark plugs. The new VCG was easy to install as expected. You should also change the grommets for the bolts around this area too to prevent any small vacuum leaks. If you have an oil leak, check your oil filter housing gasket first. Look for oil on the top left engine webbing (easiest to see if you take off the airbox first.) This is much more likely to be the source of oil on the ground than the VCG (which is more likely to leak on the header and smoke.) After I changed both of these, my car had no oil leaks.
