Product Details

Sidewinder Truck Rack by U.S. RACK®. The Sidewinder ratchet truck rack is a side-mounted ladder rack that includes built-in ratchet straps. It is designed to carry ladders or other long objects while leaving the truck bed free. This rack incorporates important safety and convenience features that eliminate the need to tie down ladders with ropes or bungee cords. Fits trucks with ordinary fleetside bed rails.

Installation

The Sidewinder truck rack is the world’s only side-mounted ladder rack with built-in ratchet straps. It’s a great choice for those who carry all types of ladders or other long cargo and want to keep the bed of their truck free. This is a professional-duty steel ladder rack that carries ladders or other rigid cargo up to 30 inches wide and weighing up to 250 lbs. Designed for all-weather conditions, the Sidewinder truck rack is powdercoated black, providing a tough, corrosion-resistant and attractive finish. Its two heavy-duty universal receivers mount permanently to the inside of the bedrail at the front and back of the bed, and two rack frames quickly insert into or remove from them. The Sidewinder adjusts in height so cargo rides the correct distance above the truck cab. Each rack frame has a ratchet strap that can be extended up to 15 feet as well as auxiliary tie-down loops if ever there is a need for chains and locks or supplemental straps. Securing a ladder is as easy as 1-2-3. The ratchet can then be padlocked to prevent cargo removal.

Cross bar bolt issues
When you watch the video, you will see them use a track bolt to install the cross bar. However, when you get the product it will be a round one that will spin when you put pressure to the nut. To solve, put the bar on the ground or a table. Start the nut and then lift up so gravity pulls the bar tight and locks the bolt so it will not turn. Once you have it semi -tight so you can still slide the leg on the cross bar to adjust for alignment then you will be able to tighten once you put it on the truck base posts. Barely clears my cab on my Tundra crew cab limited trd model. Noodles zip tied cross bar give the extra clearance. I have a sunroof so it has a hump on the cab.

Nice Rack
I had this rack-mounted on the Snugtop cab High fiberglass camper shell of my 06 2500 HD Chevy. Even though my cap was slightly shorter than recommended for the full size rack, I was able to cantilever the rack over the cab just a bit due to the versatility of this rack, and makes it look sharp. It had been on my truck for over 10 years and I used it regularly. When loading it up at the lumber yard I often get the comment, "nice rack" and a lot of inquiries about where I got it. When hunting and camping, I fasten a full sheet of plywood to the rack and can use it to sleep on and as a raised platform to glass for game. The rack does rattle a bit, but I managed to quiet most of it down with creative use of rubber strips and silicone caulking. The rack can easily hold the 250lbs it's rated for, but the load needs to be distributed properly to keep from damaging it. The finish could be more rugged, it faded and can be worn off. Even though we get very little rain in Arizona, it did leave slight but noticeable, rust stains on my white cap. Despite any negatives, I recently sold the truck and cap, but removed the rack to use on my new Ram.

Can handle any job)
I’m glad that I got this rack. Versatile and durable. Now I can easily carry my canoe for vacation as well as transport loads to my work. The whole construction doesn’t weigh much. It takes minutes to install. When not used, I simply disassemble the rack and leave it in a garage (it doesn’t take much room).
