When planning to purchase Toyota MR2 trailer hitches, your best bet when it comes to where to buy is CARiD. The shop stocks a wide variety of Toyota MR2 trailer hitches that you can choose from. In as much as you can mount any hitch onto the vehicle, it is good to be aware that there are several categories of hitches before making any decision. You will find gooseneck hitches, 5th wheel hitches, weight bearing hitches and lastly weight distributing hitches. Gooseneck and 5th wheel hitches are best suited for heavy trailers. The reason behind this is that hitches take the weight that is at the tongue of the trailer and place it at the rear axle which makes it easy for one to drive in crosswinds because the trailer will not steer the track if it is behind the bumper at all times. A weight bearing hitch will take the weight of the trailer tongue and the weight will go to the suspension. When this happens, all the weight will be at the back wheels of the car, making the front wheels lighter and this is not a good thing. A weight distributing hitch on the other hand has spring bars which transfer some of the weight onto the front tires of the car. This way, all tires are stable while in motion.
Any trailer that is being towed should place only 10% of its total weight on the tongue so that even if it pushes down this weight onto the rear of the car, the car would still move safely. If this is not the case and the tongue has more weight, all this weight will be at the rear of your car making your front wheels lighter. This will greatly interfere with your steering power which will become risky. Pick the right trailer hitch for the weight you plan to tow and you’ll have nothing t worry about.
