The tires on a trailer and those on your passenger vehicle have crucial differences in their construction. Traction is a key feature in the design of the tires fitted to a tow vehicle, as it needs to accelerate, corner, and brake properly. They have flexible sidewalls and are not constructed for hauling hefty loads. When you tow a trailer, you need to minimize swaying, especially when taking turns. In order to keep your rig stable, Special Trailer (ST) tires have stiffer sidewalls and shallower tread blocks. They are also made from heavier-duty materials and ensure better handling at high speeds and bruise resistance under load.
Frequent towing, especially on hot summer days, has a destructive effect on rubber. When not in use, a trailer is kept in one spot for weeks and months, all too often in the open. Even if it's stored in a garage, its tires can still suffer from dry rot and flat spotting. Add in rubber oxidation, exhaust heat, and stiff suspensions on trailers and you get it why the tires on your rig wear out fast. They typically last four to six years and should be replaced even if much tread appears to be left. When it's time to find new 13 inch trailer tires, look no further. We have suitable replacements with rugged construction and optimal tread patterns, designed to stand up to the rigors of towing.
