Universal Replacement Cable and Nylon Pin Assembly for PN 2010 Switch by Tekonsha®. For all 12v battery systems with a 4 Amp-hr minimum output. 2024-07 is designed to fit securely into the Breakaway Battery Cases. Temperature compensated design provides continuous recharge with automatic float mode feature to prevent overcharging. Trailers with electric brakes are required to have a breakaway system that applies the brakes in the unlikely possibility of coming loose from the tow vehicle at speed. These systems use a small lead-acid battery and a switch with a lanyard to the tow vehicle frame.

The law requires a breakaway system if your trailer has electric brakes. Simply, this means that if your trailer coupler separates from the ball, a lanyard attached to the tow vehicle will pull a pin out of a switch. This connects a small battery directly to the trailer brakes. This way, your errant trailer won't continue down the road until it smashes into something, but simply brake smoothly to a halt.

This breakaway system is a vital safety system and should receive regular maintenance, including charging the small battery. Experts recommend replacing the entire breakaway system, battery, switch and wiring regularly every 3-5 years. The simplest place to mount the battery box is on the tongue of the trailer, but where isn't as important as long as it works. You'll need to make electrical connections to the brake circuit, a chassis ground and to the trailer 12V feed for a charger, if you install one.

Intelligent trailer braking is the key to the success of the Tekonsha® family of braking products. Established in 1964, Tekonsha technology can be found in some of North America's leading vehicle manufacturers… a testimony to its superior performance history when it comes to stopping trailers. Smooth, predictable stopping at all speeds has made Tekonsha’s Prodigy®, Primus® and Voyager® trailer brake controls "best of class" and the most popular available today. As the industry leader in electric trailer brake controls and breakaway systems remember… "No matter what you are towing, Tekonsha can help you stop it".

Tekonsha® 2005-B120 - Replacement Breakaway Switch for 1 to 3 Axle Trailers
I installed this on my camper and wired it to apply my electric brakes from the trailer battery. The mounting bracket was easy to use and it has a nice long woven cable to attach to the tow vehicle. I'm happy with the quality and the price.
