Steering Knuckles

A steering knuckle, also referred to as a hub carrier, wheel carrier, or upright, is a component in a vehicle’s front axle that actually makes the front wheels rotate. It pivots on an upper ball joint (which attaches it to the strut assembly) and lower ball joint, thus creating the geometry of the steering axis. The design of the steering knuckles differs depending on the type of suspension and drivetrain, but their ever-present function is to link the steering components, suspension components, and wheels together. The steering knuckle assembly holds and controls the wheels, allowing the driver to turn the vehicle.

Although steering knuckles are usually strong parts that are quite hard to bend, they can get damaged in a collision or as a result of hitting a curb or a large pothole.
