The drops of water in fog reflect the light back at you when you turn on regular headlights, which doesn’t help much when you’re trying to grope your way through a fog bank. The bulb in a projector fog light is positioned in front of an elliptical-shaped reflector. Where a conventional parabolic type reflector reflects light outward in a dispersed pattern, the elliptical reflector reflects the light toward a single focal point in front of the bulb. Projector fog lights produce a sharper, more focused beam of light with less scatter loss.
