A corroded or perforated fuel filler neck can cause the fuel to become contaminated and clog the fuel pump strainer, resulting in no or reduced fuel pressure and volume. This can lead to a no start condition or performance problems. On OBD II vehicles, a perforated filler neck will not allow the EVAP system to seal when the engine control computer tests the system, and cause the CHECK ENGINE light to illuminate.
