The Swedish car manufacturer introduced the Saab 900 back in 1978. The first generation of this compact automobile was built on the 99 model's chassis and featured a longer front end in order to meet the crash regulations accepted in the USA. The powertrain mainly featured a single- or twin carburetor, but it could be fuel-injected in later models; besides, there were turbocharged versions. This front-wheel-drive automobile by Saab was technically distinctive with its motor installed backward and a special transmission bolted to the engine bottom.
