A trailer hitch was created to make towing a trailer easy. It’s an attachment that hooks up to the back of your vehicle and then to the trailer for short and long distance hauls. There are two types of hitches that each can be; a fixed-drawbar type and a receiver type. Trailer hitches are attached to either the rear bumper of the vehicle or the vehicles chassis. A hitch then has a link to tow your trailer, vehicle or other equipment. You can find a multitude of different SAAB 9-3 trailer hitches at CARiD to consider, compare and choose from. Hitches have a different weight, height and other various specifications. The Society of Automotive Engineers classifies trailer hitches into 5 different classes; I, II, III, IV and V. Each class has a different weight capacity that makes it better or worse for hauling items and equipment.

A Class I trailer hitch was created to haul light loads that weigh up to 2000 pounds. Another class for lighter loads is the Class II. This trailer hitch can hold up to 3500 pounds. For larger loads like boats, campers and vehicles the class III is the way to go. Class III trailers have a weight capacity of 5000 pounds. Class IV trailers are great for all campers, boats, vehicles and trailers up to 10000 pounds. Anything over 10000 pounds gets hooked up with a Class V trailer hitch. Once you know what you’re going to tow, you can decide which class would be the best option for you. You don’t need a Class V trailer hitch to haul a small trailer, and you can’t use a Class I trailer hitch to haul a large vehicle. Without the proper trailer hitch you could ruin your vehicle or the hitch trying to move the wrong sized items.
