Racing Vacuum Pumps

Browse by Vehicle

Turbocharged vehicles and those powered by a diesel or gasoline direct injection engine require a brake vacuum pump to be installed to ensure efficient operation of their braking system. This is because those engines generate less manifold vacuum. As a result, an additional pump that will produce the amount of vacuum needed for proper booster operation has to be installed. Years ago, this unit was nothing more than a diaphragm or piston pump. Nowadays, there are also rotary vane pumps available on the market.

Typically, this brake part uses an electrical control circuit to operate and activates with a signal sent by a sensor which monitors the vacuum level in the booster. Many racers install a bigger cam to pull in more air/fuel mixture for getting more horsepower out of their engine. However, a bigger camshaft reduces the incoming charge of air thus leaving power brakes without the needed amount of boost. This is another reason to equip your vehicle with a vacuum pump and enjoy all the benefits of power brake assist.

Whatever its type, it is prone to wear and damage, just like any other car part. There are several common symptoms of a faulty brake vacuum pump. For instance, you may notice that your pedal is unusually stiff. Fortunately, today’s aftermarket manufacturers deliver a vast range of products built to the highest standards to choose from. So whether you are looking for a new pump due to the failure of your old one or to complete your upgrading job, you will certainly find the right product for your needs. In addition, you can find a wide selection of hardware needed for secure installation and a variety of related products like vacuum hoses, caps, etc.
