Racing Oil Pumps & Components

The reliability of an engine depends largely on its efficient lubrication. When it comes to a racing engine, it is particularly true, since it often performs at its peak during a race. That’s why building a racing engine involves upgrading not only its pistons, crankshaft and other components that have a direct impact on its performance, but also other engine parts that ensure its safe and smooth operation. Beyond a doubt, an oil pump is one of them. It does a crucial job, circulating oil inside the engine under high pressure to properly lubricate all contact points and moving parts in order to reduce their wear and friction between them.

There are several types of oil pumps found in today’s high-performance and racing engines, including, but not limited to, eccentric rotor, rotary-plunger, and dry sump ones. The latter type is very popular among racers and rally car drivers since dry sump systems allow for preventing oil surge during fast driving, which may happen with other types of oil pumps. In and of itself, a dry sump oil pump is a set of two pumps put into a single housing to be driven by the same shaft. The first one forces oil throughout the engine, while the other one returns the lubricant to the oil tank from the sump used to store some oil for more efficient lubrication.

Since an oil pump failure may cause serious mechanical breakdowns, it is designed to be extremely reliable. For this reason, most regular oil pumps are quite simple and employ minimal moving parts. However, racing and high-performance oil pumps are a totally different ballgame because they must be extremely productive to ensure proper lubrication in any operating conditions. This involves more complex designs with many moving components which are prone to wear and tear faster than immobile parts. Such components along with complete racing oil pump assemblies are available on our website, so you can quickly pick out the right part to fix or replace your high-performance oil pump.
