The Porsche 928 was an attempt at overshadowing the legendary 911 and creating a luxury Grand Tourer. This model was innovative in many ways, with its front-mounted 4.5 L V8 engine incorporating thick cylinder barrels made of aluminum and oil pump driven by the timing belt. The front position of the engine was possibly inspired by the contemporary U.S. governmental policies. The Porsche 928 had its weight well-balanced by means of transaxle, and power characteristics were subsequently modified with the 928S version of 1983.
