The Pontiac LeMans appeared in 1961 as a top trim of the Tempest. It was a Y-body based pillared coupe (convertible was added a year later) that was sportier and more luxurious than the parent model. Like any other long-living nameplate, the LeMans was subjected to numerous redesigns throughout its five generations in production. It grew in size and was moved to the A-body platform, added more body styles (including a station wagon), saw many changes in the powertrain to keep up with the times, etc. The model was produced till 1981, though in 1988 the nameplate was revived to denote a subcompact car marketed in North America and New Zealand, which was basically a rebranded Daewoo LeMans. The final model year for this car was 1993.
