The G8 is a full-size sports sedan built by GM Holden Ltd. in Australia and exported to the U.S. and Canada to be sold there under the Pontiac brand. Basically, it was a rebranded Holden Commodore manufactured for only two model years, 2008 and 2009. The Pontiac G8 replaced the aging Grand Prix model, following the manufacturer's strategy to return to its performance car roots. The G8 was the first rear-wheel drive sedan by Pontiac since the time when the 1986 Bonneville was introduced. A rear-wheel drive layout allowed the experts at GM's Australian division to install bigger, more powerful engines. The base power unit was a 3.6L V6 with 256 hp directed through a 5-speed automatic transmission. The mighty 6.0L and 6.2L V8 that made 361 and 415 hp respectively were available as options.
