Pontiac rolled out its mid-size G6 based on the front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform for the 2005 model year. Its name refers to the “sixth generation” of the Pontiac Grand Am, which it came to replace. The G6 was GM's attempt at returning the Pontiac brand to its performance car roots. The car came with a range of powerful gasoline engines with variations in capacity from 2.4L to 3.6L. The standard engine was a 3.5L V6 with 200 horsepower directed through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The base model rolled on 16-inch wheels with disc brakes on all of them. A sportier GT trim offered 17-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, transmission with TAPshift and a rear spoiler, among other features.
