The manufacture of the Pontiac Catalina started in 1959 and ran until 1981. In its early days, the Catalina was marketed as an entry-level sedan, as opposed to flagship cars like the Bonneville and the Star Chief. Originally, 2-door coupes and convertibles were offered under the Catalina nameplate, although later 4-door sedans and station wagons were added to the lineup. Additional features of the early Pontiac Catalina included carpeted interiors, wheel covers, chrome detailing, lights in the trunk, and two cup holders. The later version, produced from 1977 to 1981, was lighter and smaller.
