The company known today as PerTronix, a reputed manufacturer of performance auto products, was originally launched in 1962 under the name "Per-Lux." Back then, it was specializing in the production of driving and fog lights, designed particularly for heavy-duty vehicles. However, in a decade, the company managed to patent a new electronic ignition system and as a result, launched an innovative product called Ignitor, which found immediate success among fleet managers and automotive enthusiasts.
Later on, such brands as Doug’s Headers and JBA Performance Exhaust also enriched the family of PerTronix. After creating the original PerTronix electronic ignition, and on the basis of it, a complete PerTronix distributor, the company greatly broadened its offering of ignition products. Upgraded Ignitor II and Ignitor III, a special Flame-Thrower line of PerTronix coils and spark plug wires, Digital Rev Limiter, Second Strike ignition box, and many other remarkable products have been developed since then.
The new “PerTronix” brand name introduced in 1991 marked the company’s full shift to the ignition business. Through the years, the company has been growing and expanding its product lines and facilities. Today, with over 5 decades of experience, it’s one of the leaders on the market of ignition and exhaust products. So far, the number of PerTronix Ignitor kits sold has passed the 4,000,000 milestone. In 2000, the company acquired Ermie Immerso Enterprises, a known maker of exhaust products, and launched two new brands: Patriot Exhaust and Smithy Mufflers, supplying the muscle car market with performance exhaust parts.
