The Perma-Tune® brand name began in 1969 and was created by a German immigrant, Dr. Theodore Sturm, in Southern California. The Perma-Tune was widely used in car racing and as a “permanent tune-up” for streetcars. It also became a factory upgrade part for Ferrari cars entering the U.S. from 1970 to 1974. Sturm collaborated with Ferdinand Porsche to create a special ignition system for the Porsche 911. Known as the Blue Box, it was manufactured in Newport Beach, California, and exported to Germany for installation on the 1974 through 1977 Porsche 911. Since then, Perma-Tune product line has remained in production exclusively in the United States. Today, the company manufactures an extensive line of electronic ignition systems and related accessories for a variety of vintage vehicles. Perma-Tune products combine advanced ignition technology and high-tech electronics with old-school appearance.
