Leaf springs usually have multiple leaves separated by plastic liners. One end of the leaf spring is attached to the vehicle frame by a single bolt in a bushing mounted in the end of the main spring leave. The other end is attached to the frame with a spring shackle, which allows the spring to change in length as the arch changes in response to the road. The axle is mounted to the spring with U-bolts and tie plates. A leaf spring should be inspected for cracks, broken leaves, and worn bushings. If the springs appear sagged, then the vehicle ride height should be measured and compared with specification.
